BMW has taken a game-changing step and announced that it will produce a limited number of the Skytop Roadster, which was unveiled earlier this year. Exciting automotive enthusiasts, the company will produce 50 units of the model that will appeal to the ultra-luxury market.
BMW Skytop Roadster enters mass production
BMW has announced that it will produce a limited edition of the Skytop Roadster it unveiled earlier this year. Unlike the flashy designs that usually remain in the concept stage, the Skytop will turn into a real car for 50 customers.
Making its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the two-seater Skytop takes inspiration from iconic BMW roadsters such as the 507 and Z8. Both elegant and aggressive in design, the vehicle was highly acclaimed for its distinctive shark face and removable roof.
The production version softens some of the sharp lines of the concept model, but retains its performance. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine in the M8 Competition produces 617 horsepower and propels the Skytop to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
Rear windows and optional interior design touches combine open-air excitement and luxury. BMW Head of Design Adrian van Hooydonk described making the Skytop a reality as “a dream”. He stated that they achieved balance with Skytop by moving away from the design choices in models such as the 7 Series and XM.
Limited to only 50 units, the Skytop targets the ultra-luxury segment with its high price tag. Although no exact figure has been announced, it is certain that this collectible BMW work of art will be quite expensive.
